The School Festival Surprise

The annual school festival was the most exciting event of the year at Sunrise Public School. Students spent weeks preparing games, decorations, dance performances, and food stalls. Everyone looked forward to the festival, especially Class 8 students, who were responsible for organizing the main stage events.

Among them was Rohan, a cheerful boy who loved helping others. This year, he was part of the decoration team. Every afternoon after classes, he and his friends stayed back to hang colorful banners, arrange lights, and paint welcome signs.

Three days before the festival, the principal made an announcement.

“This year,” she said, “a special guest will visit our festival. The guest’s identity will remain a secret until the event begins.”

The entire school buzzed with excitement. Students tried to guess who it could be. Some thought it might be a famous actor, while others believed it would be a sports star.

As the festival day approached, preparations became more hectic. Rohan noticed that one corner of the school garden looked dull compared to the rest of the campus. He suggested placing flower pots there.

“It will make the entrance look beautiful,” he said.

His friends agreed, and together they borrowed plants from the school greenhouse. The garden soon became one of the most attractive spots on campus.

Finally, the big day arrived.

The school grounds were transformed into a colorful wonderland. Bright flags fluttered in the breeze. Music played from speakers, and students welcomed visitors with smiles. Parents, teachers, and guests filled the campus.

The festival opened with a cultural program. Students performed dances, sang songs, and acted in short plays. The audience applauded enthusiastically after every performance.

Meanwhile, everyone wondered about the secret guest.

After lunch, the principal stepped onto the stage.

“Students,” she announced, “it is time to welcome our special guest.”

The crowd fell silent.

Just then, a car entered the school gate. Everyone stretched their necks to see who was arriving. To the students’ surprise, the guest was not a movie star or a famous athlete.

Instead, an elderly man wearing simple clothes walked onto the stage.

Many students looked confused.

The principal smiled.

“This is Mr. Arvind Mehta,” she said. “He was once a student of this very school. Today he is a successful scientist whose inventions help farmers save water and grow healthier crops.”

The audience applauded warmly.

Mr. Mehta began speaking about his childhood. He shared stories of studying in the same classrooms, playing on the same playground, and participating in school festivals years ago.

“Success,” he said, “does not come from being the smartest person in the room. It comes from curiosity, hard work, and kindness.”

The students listened carefully.

After his speech, Mr. Mehta toured the festival. He visited every stall and spoke with many students. When he reached the garden entrance, he stopped and admired the colorful flowers.

“This area looks wonderful,” he said.

The principal explained that Rohan and his friends had improved it only a few days earlier.

Mr. Mehta called Rohan to his side.

“You noticed something that needed improvement and took action,” he said. “That is how positive change begins.”

Rohan felt proud but also surprised by the compliment.

As the evening program began, the principal returned to the stage for one final announcement.

“This year,” she said, “we are introducing a special award for students who show initiative and teamwork.”

The audience waited eagerly.

“The first recipients of this award are Rohan and his decoration team.”

The students cheered loudly.

Rohan and his friends walked onto the stage and received certificates from Mr. Mehta. None of them had expected such recognition. They had simply wanted to make the school look better.

As the sun set and colorful lights illuminated the campus, Rohan looked around at the smiling faces of students, teachers, and parents. The festival had been full of fun, but the biggest surprise was not the secret guest.

It was the lesson everyone learned that day—that small efforts, when done with care and teamwork, can make a big difference.

The school festival ended with music, laughter, and happy memories. For Rohan and his friends, it became a day they would never forget.
